Children's dentistry at Bath Spa Dentistry

We know a child's early experiences at the dentist shape how they feel about visiting for the rest of their life, so our team works hard to make your child’s visit a great one.

Jessica Seton, our dental therapist, has a particular interest in dentistry for children and works alongside our general dentists to make every visit calm and reassuring. We explain everything in plain, friendly language (no scary words), so your child knows exactly what to expect.

What happens at a children's dental appointment?

A children's dental appointment is similar to an adult check-up, just gentler and more relaxed in pace. Your child's teeth, gums and bite are checked for early signs of decay or other concerns, and the dentist or therapist will talk your child through what they're doing as they go. It's also a good moment to ask about when to start brushing baby teeth, well before any problems have a chance to develop.

Spread the cost of your child’s dental care

Children under 5 are seen free of charge if you’re an existing, regularly attending patient.

Once your child turns 5, we offer a dedicated children's membership plan through Patient Plan Direct, alongside our adult plans, so families can spread the cost of routine dental care across the year.

Visit our pricing page for full pricing details, or speak to our team about which plan suits your family.

Getting to know you

We start with a friendly chat, so your child can see the surgery and meet the team before we begin their examination.

Your child's check-up

Your child's teeth and gums are checked gently, with plenty of encouragement along the way.

Building good habits

We'll suggest a schedule for future check-ups and give you practical brushing tips, so good habits start building at home too.

Should I take my child to the dentist?

We're happy to see children from their very first teeth, and starting early helps children see the dentist as a normal, unthreatening part of life rather than something to worry about.

If your child is showing any signs of dental issues, bring them in as soon as possible for an examination, so we can get them back to their regular happy selves as soon as possible.

A children's dentist your family can stick with in Bath

We're proud to have cared for generations of families in Bath Spa, and we're happy to welcome your little ones too.

Many of our patients prefer the unrushed, calmer atmosphere of a private dental clinic for their children's first visit, especially for nervous children. If you're already a patient with us, any children you have under 5 can visit the practice for free.

Our dental therapist Jessica Seton has a particular interest in children's dentistry, which formed part of her training at Cardiff University, where she gained First Class Honours in Dental Therapy. Her course there covered all aspects of treating younger patients, and she's cared for children at the practice since joining in 2015.
