A gentle clean with guided biofilm therapy in Bath
Guided biofilm therapy
Guided biofilm therapy uses EMS Airflow dental technology to remove plaque and staining.

Guided biofilm therapy at Bath Spa Dentistry
Guided biofilm therapy (GBT) is a modern approach to professional teeth cleaning, built around EMS Airflow dental technology. Rather than scraping plaque and tartar away, it uses a fine jet of warm water, air and gentle powder to lift biofilm and staining from your teeth and along the gumline.
At Bath Spa Dentistry, airflow tooth polishing is carried out by Jessica Seton and Sarah Broadberry as part of our hygiene and teeth cleaning appointments.

What is guided biofilm therapy?
Guided biofilm therapy (often shortened to GBT) starts by disclosing biofilm, the sticky layer of bacteria that forms on teeth, so your hygienist can see exactly where it's built up.
Your hygienist then uses EMS Airflow technology to remove it precisely, along with surface staining from tea, coffee, red wine or smoking, followed by a check of harder tartar deposits if needed.
Airflow tooth polishing is generally more comfortable than traditional scale-and-polish cleaning.

How much does guided biofilm therapy cost?
Airflow tooth polishing is an affordable way to keep your teeth clean as part of your regular hygiene visits. Many patients cover their routine oral hygiene appointments with one of our membership plans, which allow you to pay for all your preventative dental care with a simple monthly payment.

Your guided biofilm therapy appointment
Disclosing biofilm
A disclosing solution highlights biofilm on your teeth, so your hygienist can see exactly where to direct the airflow jet.
Airflow cleaning
EMS Airflow gently removes biofilm and staining using a fine jet of water, air, and powder, reaching areas a manual clean can miss.
Aftercare advice
You'll leave with tailored advice on brushing and flossing, and a recommendation for your next hygiene visit.
Do I need guided biofilm therapy?
Guided biofilm therapy is suitable for most patients as part of a routine hygiene appointment, and can be especially helpful if you have visible staining, a build-up of plaque, or sensitive gums that find traditional polishing uncomfortable. Your hygienist can advise whether it's the right approach for you at your next visit.
