Inlays and onlays at Bath Spa Dentistry
When a tooth has more damage than a filling can fix, but not enough to need a full crown, an inlay or onlay offers a stronger, longer-lasting repair.
Robbie Thompson, Emmanouil Pagoulatos and Aziz Ghanim Aziz all provide inlays and onlays at Bath Spa Dentistry, using our Intraoral scanners to plan your restoration from a digital impression rather than a traditional mould.

What are dental inlays and onlays?
An inlay is a custom-made filling that fits within the biting surface of a tooth, between the cusps, while an onlay is slightly larger and covers one or more of the cusps as well.
Both inlays and onlays are made from durable composite, shaped to fit your tooth precisely, and offers a stronger repair than a standard filling without needing to reduce the tooth as much as a full crown would.

How much do inlays and onlays cost?
Investing in a dental inlay or onlay means investing in your tooth's long-term strength, often helping you avoid the need for a full crown further down the line.
The cost of inlays and onlays can vary depending on how much of the tooth needs repairing, and whether an inlay or the slightly larger onlay is the right fit.
Our team will give you a personalised quote at your consultation, but you can check our pricing page for average pricing guidelines.

Getting an inlay or onlay at Bath Spa Dentistry
Consultation and scanning
We'll assess the damaged tooth and take a digital scan using our Intraoral scanner to design your inlay or onlay.
Preparation and a temporary fitting
Your tooth is gently prepared and fitted with a temporary restoration while your custom inlay or onlay is made.
Your permanent fitting
Your finished inlay or onlay is checked carefully for fit and bite, then bonded securely in place.
Do I need an inlay or onlay?
An inlay or onlay may be right for you if a tooth has decay or damage too extensive for a standard filling, but not so severe that it needs a full crown.
Inlays and onlays are often used to replace an older, failing filling too. Your dentist can confirm whether an inlay, onlay, or another restoration would suit your tooth best at your consultation.
If another dentist has already told you that you need an inlay or onlay, you're welcome to come to us for your treatment or simply a second opinion.
