5 Reasons to choose dental implants

Keeping your own teeth is by far the best choice but when this isn't possible dental implants provide the next best thing. Here we look at the top 5 benefits of dental implants as a choice for replacing missing teeth.

1. Second to only a real tooth
The implant replaces the root of your tooth and can be connected to a post and crown to provide a functional and natural looking replacement.

2. Longevity
Unlike other tooth replacement options dental implants should last you a very long-time! The length of time they last will be determined mainly by how well you look after them, just like natural teeth you need to keep them nice and clean and have regular check ups to ensure the implants (and the rest of your mouth) is healthy.

3. Safe for other teeth
Unlike a conventional bridge, dental implants can be placed without causing any damage or risk to the adjacent teeth.

4. Cheapest option (long-term)
Whilst dental implants may seem like the most expensive option for replacing a tooth, when you look at the long-term value you may be surprised.  Dentures and bridges have a limited life-span, regardless of how well you look after them, so this means that you may pay more than once for this type of treatment.  On the other hand, dental implants may cost more at the outset but if you look after them, you can expect them to last a lifetime.

5. Proven track record & treatment you can trust
At Bath Spa Dentistry we have a proven track record in implant dentistry and you will be in exceptionally capable hands with our experienced team.  Dermot McNulty has been practising implant dentistry for more than 30 years and during this time he has enjoyed a fantastic success rate of more than 95%.

Are Dental Implants Worth The Cost?

Picture
There is no getting away from the fact that Dental Implants are expensive, BUT we encourage you to look at this expense as a long-term investment.

On average our implants costs from £2,400 for a straight-forward single implant & crown.  If well cared for, you can realistically expect a dental implant to last for around 20 years or more.  When you compare the longevity of this treatment option with those of alternatives such a bridges or dentures you begin to see the real value for money that dental implants can offer.

A denture can be expected to last you around 3-5 years meaning over the course of 20 years you could end up spending A LOT more than the cost of a dental implant.

Similarly, a bridge to replace 1 tooth is likely to last around 5-8 years so again over the course of 20 years you will likely spend far in excess of the cost of a dental implant.

So what are the benefits of dental implants?

A dental implant will provide a fixed and predictable solution for replacing missing teeth.  You will avoid the challenges commonly experienced with other solutions such a dentures moving and being loose and uncomfortable.

Replacing missing teeth will give you a new found confidence improving your self-esteem.

Replacing missing teeth with a fixed solution will renew your freedom to eat whatever you like without restrictions, a steak, crusty bread, apples nothing will be off limits!

We think Dental Implants are well worth the investment and thanks to our flexible payment plans treatment has never been more affordable, book your free consultation to find out more.

Dentures versus Dental Implants

29/8/2018

You might be surprised to learn that in the UK approximately 27 million adults have at least 1 missing tooth. The most common reasons for losing teeth include infection, accidents and disease.

Statistics show that by the time you reach 65 you are likely to be missing at least four teeth, so it is no surprise that more than 15 million adults wear dentures!

A denture is a removable appliance that supports ‘false teeth’ and can be used to replace anything from a single tooth to a full set. Dentures have long been the solution for missing teeth but this option is not without pit falls.

Another solution for missing teeth is Dental Implants, these are small titanium screws that replace the root of a tooth, these screws can connect to a post and crown, bridge or even a specially made denture to provide a fixed and reliable solution for missing teeth.

Below we will explore the pros and cons of each option to help you decide which solution would be the best for you.
Picture
Dentures Pros

Dentures are relatively cost effective compared to other solutions.

The process of making dentures is quite quick.

If you subsequently lose more teeth it is sometimes possible to add teeth onto an existing denture instead of having a new denture made straightaway.

Denture Cons

Dentures are tricky to wear, many people find that they move when eating and speaking and having to remove them after eating and at night can cause embarrassment for many patients.

Most people find that a fixative solution is necessary for holding dentures in place.

Following the loss of a tooth, it is normal for the jaw bone to shrink away which causes dentures to become loose and ill-fitting.

Typically a denture will last for around 5 years however in some cases it may be much less.

Lack of teeth and a shrinking jaw bone results in a change in facial profile giving an aged appearance

Picture
Implant Pros

An implant looks, feels and acts just like a natural tooth.
  •
  • With the right aftercare an implant should last you in excess of 20 years.
  •
  • Due to the way an implant acts like a natural tooth, you will preserve the jaw bone and avoid the aged appearance seen with denture wearers.

Implant Cons

Implants are more expensive than dentures and other options.

In some cases the process of implant treatment is more involved and time consuming that other solutions

Conclusion

Dentures are a great solution for replacing missing teeth but in some cases living with dentures can be troublesome and far from ideal. Dental implants provide a predictable and fixed alternative and may be a better long-term investment for you.

As an adult, you may find your smile embarrassing, it might affect your self-esteem or confidence in social or professional situations.

Improving your smile is often much easier than you may think and at Bath Spa Dentistry we can offer a wide variety of options to suit all needs and budgets.

Straightening your teeth offers a multitude of benefits including:

1. APPEARANCE
Having your teeth straightened will certainly improve the appearance of your smile.  Improving not just the aesthetics of your smile but also your confidence, self-esteem and ability to SMILE! It's a well known fact that those who smile often are usually more content and happy in life.  Your smile also projects happiness onto others and gives a great impression.

2. HEALTH
You may be surprised to learn that straightening your teeth could improve your health! Straighter teeth are much easier to clean and less likely to be the source of food trapping.  This means that, if cared for correctly, your teeth and gums are at a reduced risk of developing dental disease and due to the strongly proven oral-systemic link you can be confident that a healthy body starts with a healthy mouth! You may have just reduced your risk of heart disease, stroke and diabetes to name just a few!

3. EATING & SPEAKING
By straightening your teeth you are improving the way your teeth work, putting them into a better biting position so that the upper and lower teeth work more efficiently together.  By improving the position of your teeth you will be able to eat and speak more easily and you may notice less wear on your teeth.  You will also have more confidence to eat and speak more freely without feeling embarrassed about your smile.
