WHAT IS A DENTAL IMPLANT?
Dental implants are the next best thing to your natural teeth, they are permanent replacements for failing or missing tooth roots. For anyone with missing or failing teeth, dental implants can totally restore natural function, appearance and confidence in your smile.
IN WHAT SITUATIONS CAN DENTAL IMPLANTS BE USED?
Dental Implants are a very flexible solution for replacing missing or failing teeth. Implants can be used to replace a single tooth, multiple teeth and even a full arch of teeth. Implants can be restored with crowns and bridges and can be used to stabilise dentures.
WILL I BE SUITABLE FOR DENTAL IMPLANTS?
There are very few situations where Implant treatment is unsuitable. At Bath Spa Dentistry we are committed to finding a solution for everyone and we will always give you all the available options to help you decide what is best for you. In assessment of your options we will look at the health of your entire mouth, teeth and gums as this will be the main decision maker in what is going to be best. Whilst certain situations may make treatment more complex and prolonged there is rarely 'nothing' that can be done. We believe there is a solution for everyone.
HOW LONG WILL TREATMENT TAKE?
The length of treatment varies based on numerous factors such as number of teeth to be replaced, type of restoration to be used and health factors that could affect your rate of healing. In some cases we can place implants and restore them immediately giving you 'same day teeth'. In other situations we may decide to leave implants 'unloaded' whilst they bone and soft tissues heal. The approach we take will be carefully planned and you will be included in this process to ensure you are comfortable with every step. If having a 'gap' is an issue there is always a temporary solution we can use to ensure you always have something to smile with!
DOES DENTAL IMPLANT TREATMENT HURT?
Absolutely not! Dental Implants are routinely placed under local anaesthetic and are comparative to a tooth extraction. In some cases when anxiety is an issue or where we are placing multiple implants we may recommend treatment under conscious sedation, this involves giving you some medication through a canula in your hand to make you feel more relaxed.
HOW MUCH DOES DENTAL IMPLANT TREATMENT COST?
The cost of Implant treatment is largely dependent on the number of teeth to be replaced and the approach that we use. As a guide our Implants start from £2,400. At Bath Spa Dentistry we strongly believe in offering solutions for all budgets and we will work with you to agree a treatment plan that meets your needs. We operate an upfront pricing policy, following consultation and assessment we will provide you with a full and detailed written plan that will explain all our fees specific to your personalised treatment plan. We understand that this type of treatment can be a big investment and for this reason we offer a number of flexible payment plans to help budget the cost of your treatment.
HOW LONG DO DENTAL IMPLANTS LAST?
Dental implants have an exceptional rate of success. In most cases, when correctly maintained, implants will last a life-time. Implants are without a doubt the most predictable long-term solution for missing teeth. The restoration on top of the implants (crown/bridge/denture) is likely to suffer fair wear and tear over the years and it is reasonable to expect to have to repair or even replace this at some stage in the future, in our experience usually every 7 to 10 years.
WHAT ARE THE ALTERNATIVES?
When replacing missing teeth we are lucky to have a number of options to give to our patients. There really is an option for everyone. Whist Dental Implants are the superior option, providing the most predictable result we fully appreciate that in some situations whether due to cost or complexity, it's just not the right choice for everyone. Alternatively, the most straightforward and cost-effective option to replace teeth is a denture, this is a small plastic or metal/plastic appliance that is worn to replace a single tooth or multiple teeth. Dentures provide a reasonable aesthetic result but many patients find them difficult to wear and experience movement during eating and speaking. In some cases we might be able to use a bridge to replace missing teeth, this involves attaching a porcelain or ceramic based restoration to the teeth either side of a gap. A bridge is a fixed solution and provides an excellent aesthetic and functional result. The downside with a bridge is the destructive process which can limit the life of the supporting teeth. The suitability of any alternatives can be discussed with you in detail during your consultation.
