We all know that to keep a healthy mouth we need to brush our teeth for at least two minutes twice a day with a toothpaste that contains fluoride but is there anything else you can do?

The answer to this is YES! Toothbrushing alone only reaches 60% of the tooth surface. Daily cleaning in-between your teeth with interdental brushes or floss will clean the areas missed by your toothbrush.

During the day dental plaque which contains bacteria can build up in-between your teeth. If this is not removed, combined with sugar in your diet it can lead to decay, cause bad breath, and cause your gums to become inflamed. Over a longer period of time, you can start to suffer from bone loss which supports the teeth and eventually tooth loss. Gum disease and tooth loss is not inevitable and by using an interdental brush once a day you can prevent it from starting or getting worse if you are already suffering from it.

Interdental brushes are designed to clean in those areas that a toothbrush does not. They come in a range of sizes and our hygienists will find the right size for you and show you how to use them during your appointment.
